Twists & Turns continued...
Shari Tritt and Ira Tritt ![]() The love interest in "Twisted" was the fantastic romance depicted between Shari and Ira Tritt. A series of brain surgeries many years ago left Shari with a serious speech impediment. But with her strong will, determination, and support from her sister Beth and her parents Joel and Harriett, Shari remains a strong and determined woman. Her meeting up with Ira, via a Jewish online dating chat room, was as they say in Yiddish beshert meaning it was 'destined, fated, and meant to be.' Today, they live happily in south Florida: Shari works at a retail outlet that she's been with for many years now, and Ira is happily "dis-employed." "Other than occasional spasms in my right arm and leg, I have been walking erect since my last surgery 35 years ago," says Shari. She says the film has not changed her at all except for people noticing them occasionally on the street. At her work, a customer, who Shari found out was a medical student, was moved by Shari's story. "She said to me, 'the brain is so interesting. I think I'll make brain surgery my major.' I was touched and blown away that I had something to do with her decision to save lives!" Shari doesn't dwell on her condition. She'd rather talk about her recent travels to Israel and Hong Kong. "The cracked sidewalk and uneven pavement in Jerusalem made navigating around town a bit difficult. But I could always count on Ira's hand to get me through anything." When Ira speaks of Shari, he does so in such loving and sensitive terms. It's as if he loves her more and more with each passing day, something that was also revealed in the film."I would like her to be more independent," he says, "only because I'm not going to be here forever." Ira is always quick with a great story and at least two or three tangents for each tale he begins. "She doesn't believe me, but I actually dated a girl with dystonia in New York before I met Shari. I remember because she had trouble walking and she would make really wide left turns. It took like two lights to cross Broadway." While he's confessing these details, you can hear Shari in the background laughing hysterically. Clearly, Ira is telling this story (true or not) just to amuse himself and his beautiful wife.
