Sarah's Blog: Dystonia & College
10/24/07
Dystonia had a big impact on my life as a
college student but did not prevent me from doing anything! I was very active
on campus. I was in a number of different organizations, and I didn't let my
dystonia slow me down. I think the most important thing you have to do in
college is make sure you are receiving all the assistance that you need.
Whether you need a note taker, extra time on test, a scribe, a reader,
technology, or whatever it is, make sure you have everything because it can
makes your life a whole lot easier! I have a great support system. I can talk
about my frustrations to a number of people, and it is important to have those
people to lean on. Being able to count on certain people makes your day-to-day
struggles that much easier. I make sure my dystonia does not rule my life. Yes,
I have dystonia, but I don't want it to define me.
