The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Brain and Tissue Bank for Developmental Disorders at the University of Maryland in Baltimore is a tissue bank established to further research aimed at improving the understanding, care, and treatment of developmental disorders such as dystonia.

The tissue repository currently contains over 60,000 specimens as frozen and fixed tissue. The total number of cases in the Bank is over 3,000. Over 300 disorders are represented.  Dystonia donors are especially well represented with a total of 59 cases. In addition, control tissue is available from a wide demographic range.

At the time of death, people should call 1.800.BRAINBANK (1.800.272.4622).  They can go on-line, www.brainbank.mclean.org and click on consent forms to access the dystonia form that needs to be completed.
