Goal of the Cure Dystonia Initiative

The Goal of the Cure Dystonia Initiative

The immediate goal of the CDI is to create a pipeline of better treatments within five years. Focusing primarily on the early phases of discovery and clinical evaluation, it is the intention of the CDI to recruit academic and for-profit partners to assist in later phases. This will be done in part by implementing strategies to make the field of dystonia drug development a more attractive research and investment opportunity.

How the CDI works

The Cure Dystonia Initiative provides strategic direction, project management, and seed funding for efforts toward developing therapeutics for dystonia. An Advisory Council (CDIAC) provides overall strategy while the CDI Management Team handles the day-to-day operations. Members of the CDIAC have been drawn from academia and industry, and provide expertise in dystonia, drug discovery and development, venture capital and business management. The CDIAC is creating an overall strategic framework that will encompass multiple promising avenues, including novel therapeutics and small molecule pharmaceutics as well as repurposed existing drugs. The CDIAC also assists in developing formal and informal partnerships between academia, federal institutions, biopharmaceutical companies and funding agencies.
