Using a combination of private funding, government grants, and matching funds from our industry partners plus the reinvestment of any future royalties, the CDI will attempt to bridge the gap between basic and translational research. Partners from the biopharmaceutical industry will be sought to assist with subsequent phases of drug development and commercialization. Preliminary analysis of the market potential for new and improved dystonia treatments shows the probability of attractive margins. We are working aggressively to assemble a strong case to attract venture capital for the later phases of therapeutic development. The first phases of drug development are of course expensive. We need more funding! This initiative is being launched with monies from the Acceleration Fund and a generous anonymous gift of $1 million. More money will be needed and will be needed quickly.
