Emotional Health

  • Living with dystonia involves constantly overcoming challenges. Alternating feelings of empowerment and frustration are common.

  • Because dystonia can be such an exhausting disease, both physically and psychologically, some individuals are left feeling “worn out” by the accumulation of years living with this disorder and its secondary effects.

  • Changes in employment and activities, living arrangements, finances, and relationships may lead to feelings of sadness, regret, denial, and frustration. It is normal to react to loss, but negative feelings that persist for more than two weeks may signify a more serious condition.

  • Depression and anxiety are legitimate health conditions that can be treated. Treatment may involve counseling, medications, non-drug techniques, and/or changes in lifestyle.

Make the freedom to move a reality to everyone.
