Become a Legislative Advocate
As a citizen and a constituent, you are in a powerful position to influence policy makers responsible for areas of government that impact the dystonia community. The DMRF needs your help! Help us educate and influence legislators and government officials who influence, for example, how much money is allocated to medical research year, access to medications, and the future of genetic non-discrimination legislation.
DMRF’S Public Policy Committee is calling for volunteers to act as legislative advocates at the local grass roots level. The primary duties of these volunteers is to visit the local offices of our Federal Representatives and Senators in order tourge them to support increased funding for dystonia research and other issues such as the Genetic Non-Discrimination Act
Advocates educate legislators about the needs of the dystonia community.
which prevents discrimination in employment and insurance based on genetic background.
The “
Legislative Tool Kit” contains the background and information you need to know to make an effective local visit and follow up. The Public Policy Committee will work with the advocates to assist them in their efforts.
