The Dystonia Advocacy Network (DAN) invites you to the St. Gregory Hotel in Washington, DC on Tuesday, May 4th, and Wednesday, May 5th to participate in the 2010 Dystonia Advocacy Day. Register here.
This important annual event brings dystonia affected individuals and families from across the country together on Capitol Hill to educate members of Congress about dystonia and inform them of how they can assist the dystonia patient community. While the specific agenda is still being developed, this event will include:
Comprehensive advocacy training on May 4th
A networking Dinner for all advocates
A full day of meetings with your Members of Congress on May 5th
The opportunity to make a difference
We understand that some persons might be intimidated or reluctant to speak to their elected officials for the first time. The training session on Tuesday will address all of your concerns. Training topics include: How to make a Hill visit, the current climate on the Hill, and role playing. You will be assigned to teams for Advocacy Day and a mentor will assist each team. Visits will be arranged in advance, and you will be given a map of your assignments, directions, and leave-behind materials for each of the offices you visit.
By working together we will strengthen our voice and advance our issues. We will be heard!
Without exception, volunteers who have participated in these events in the past have found them to be an incredibly rewarding and empowering experience and were proud to have exercised their right to communicate with elected officials.
